Trading cards are cool things. They start off really cheap, but as they get older people want them more and so they get more expensive. Because we know that, let’s say we get some trading cards and see how much they’re worth after we’ve had them for a few years.
Part One:
You can have one of these cards to start off:
Pokemon: Starting Value: 100, and it gets 5% more valuable than the last year with each year that passes.
Yu-Gi-Oh: Starting Value: 100, and it gets 6% more valuable each year.
Baseball: Starting Value: 100, and it gets 8% more valuable each year.
Star Wars: Starting Value: 100, and it gets 7% more valuable each year.
Which one do you want?
Part Two:
You can have one of these cards now:
Pokemon: Starting Value: 100, and it gets 5% more valuable each year.
Yu-Gi-Oh: Starting Value: 97, and it gets 6% more valuable each year.
Baseball: Starting Value: 88, and it gets 8% more valuable each year.
Star Wars: Starting Value: 92, and it gets 7% more valuable each year.
Does this change which one you want?
Part Three:
Sadly, we cannot always keep our cards secure. Your younger brother messes with your stuff and sometimes he might step on the card and damage it, which will make it worth less. So during the fourth and fifth years, there’s a chance that some cards might get stepped on. All the cards have the same starting values and growth rates that they did during Part Two.
Pokemon: Starting Value: 100, and it gets 5% more valuable each year. Has a 1/8 chance of being stepped on during years 4 and 5, making it less valuable by $1 each time it gets stepped on.
Yu-Gi-Oh: Starting Value: 97, and it gets 6% more valuable each year. Has a 1/4 chance of being stepped on during years 4 and 5, making it less valuable by $1 each time it gets stepped on.
Baseball: Starting Value: 88, and it gets 8% more valuable each year. Safe from steps.
Star Wars: Starting Value: 92, and it gets 7% more valuable each year. Safe from steps.
Part Four:
Sometimes, though, good things can happen too that change how much your cards are worth. It may be that the card gets more popular or that people as a whole start wanting to collect more cards.
Has a 1/8 chance of becoming more popular during years 4 and 5, making it more valuable by $1 each time it gets more popular.
Star Wars: Starting Value: 92, and it gets 7% more valuable each year. Safe from steps. Has a 1/4 chance of becoming more popular during years 4 and 5, making it more valuable by $1 each time it gets more popular.
Part Five:
Star Wars and Pokemon cards are made by the same company, and it’s possible that this company will go out of business soon, making all of their cards worth more because they’ll be rarer. There’s a 50% chance that this event could happen during Year 3.
Pokemon: Starting Value: 100, and it gets 5% more valuable each year. Has a 1/8 chance of being stepped on during years 4 and 5, making it less valuable by $1 each time it gets stepped on. Has a 1/2 chance of getting more valuable by $2 in Year 3
Yu-Gi-Oh: Starting Value: 97, and it gets 6% more valuable each year.
Has a 1/2 chance of getting more valuable by $2 in Year 3.
