Exposition to me is giving the ‘long view’ and especially context
1) The ‘context’ can a very fuzzy idea to people (below is one person’s definition which I think tries to get at the heart of the matter). To me the key idea is that it especially setting of time, place or circumstances needed to make sense of the ‘story’ at a later point.

Context” means a background, setting, or situation. The context of a word is the other words that surround it. (Words often have different meanings in different contexts.) The story may different meaning based on initial and continuing time, place, or circumstances.
(may need some illustration here of time, place and circumstances)
2) What we mean by “long view”
What we don’t want to do is spoil the mystery of what is to come. The long view is like the view of the castle at the top of the hill , at midnight from 1/4 mile away.
We are curious to learn more about what’s in it but can’t see all the details….

*** For OUR GROUP- we may hint at an ‘inciting action’ but not necessarily make that a ‘concrete’ task. This is because we are teachers and that its ‘cooler’ if the kids come up with their own ideas for the inciting action/incident. See appendix in case the )
